Clear customs, collect bags. Driver waiting in arrivals — head straight north, no Colombo stop.

~170 km directly north — the airport is far closer to Sigiriya than Colombo is. Grab food on the road. Arrive ~9:30 PM.

Tomorrow starts at 5:30 AM for Pidurangala. Get to sleep.

Tuk-tuk from hotel (don't walk — wild elephants roam the roads before dawn). 30–45 min boulder scramble to an open summit with a breathtaking panoramic view of Lion Rock glowing in the mist. Entry ~$3. Allow 2.5 hrs total.

5-min drive away. Climb the 5th-century royal fortress: ancient frescoes, the mirror wall, the Lion's Paw gateway, and 360° summit views. Early entry means fewer crowds and better light. Allow ~3 hrs. Entry ~$30 USD.

You've done two climbs before noon. Sit down, eat properly, rest your legs. Several good restaurants near the entrance.

Open jeep through the park around the ancient Minneriya Reservoir. Wild Asian elephants, Sri Lankan axis deer, crocodiles, peacocks, and monkeys. April is outside peak season — expect 20–100 elephants rather than the famous mass gathering (July–Oct). Still a spectacular experience. Entry ~$15 + jeep ~$75.

Hit the road south through the hill country. Grab dinner on the road. Arrive Ella ~22:30. Day 3 has a relaxed start — no early alarm.

You arrived late after two climbs and a safari. No alarm. Rooftop breakfast with valley views.

Walk through the tea fields to Sri Lanka's most iconic 1921 viaduct — brick and cement, no steel. Train #11016 crosses the bridge at around 09:00 on its way to Ella, so if you time it right you can watch it pass from below, then head to the station to board it yourself.

Sri Lanka Railway Train #11016. Board at Ella station at 09:00 and ride 36 minutes across the Nine Arch Bridge — from inside the train. Arrive Demodara at 09:36. See the famous Demodara Loop where the track spirals under itself. Tuk-tuk back to Ella (~10 min). Buy a 2nd class unreserved ticket at the window just before boarding (~LKR 30) — no advance booking needed. Sit on the left side, stand in an open doorway for photos.

Back in Ella by 10:00 after the tuk-tuk from Demodara. Great rooftop cafés along the main strip. Pick up loose-leaf tea or spices to take home.

15-min drive to a wide cascade waterfall, then stop at a roadside tea factory for a free tour and fresh Ceylon tasting straight from the source.

Easy 30-min hike through tea plantations to panoramic valley views. The late afternoon light is extraordinary — stay for the full sunset.

End the day with a long dinner overlooking the valley fading into the dark below.

Dramatic landscape shift from misty mountains to tropical coast. Stop for lunch in Matara (~30 min before Mirissa).

Golden sand, warm Indian Ocean. Swim, settle in, explore. Wade to Parrot Rock for views back over the bay. Watch the sunset from a beachside bar.

Fresh tuna, grilled prawns, or coconut prawn curry. Book a whale watching boat for tomorrow morning before you sleep.

Depart ~6 AM, return ~11 AM. Mirissa is one of the world's best spots for blue whales. Spinner dolphins nearly guaranteed. Allow 5 hrs on the water.

Lunch at a beachside spot, then a swim or hammock time. You've been up since 5 AM.

15–20 min walk from the main beach. Rocky cove with calm sheltered water — perfect for snorkelling. Far quieter than Mirissa and beautiful at low tide.

Short hop east along the coast. Shortest drive of the whole trip.

Consistent beginner-friendly waves in a perfectly sheltered horseshoe bay. Lessons ~LKR 3,000–5,000 for 2 hrs.

Açaí bowls, fresh fish, strong coffee right on the sand. Hiriketiya's food scene punches well above its size.

The horseshoe shape keeps one end always calm. Stay for the sunset — the light over the bay here is exceptional.

A 200-year-old Dutch Ayurvedic hospital turned iconic beach bar — one of the south coast's most legendary spots. Wood-fired pizza, ice-cold beers, cocktails and a lively crowd under the palm trees. Tuesday is a regular night (not the Wednesday DJ or Saturday live band), but the vibe is great any evening. Worth the 10-min tuk-tuk from Hiriketiya.

Head back west along the A2 coast road. Ahangama sits between Hiriketiya and Galle — perfectly positioned on the way to the airport.

Ahangama has some of the best and most consistent surf on the south coast. Kabalana Beach works for all levels. Several surf camps and rentals right on the beach.

Ahangama is one of the few remaining places in the world where fishermen perch on wooden poles above the waves. A uniquely Sri Lankan scene — walk the beach and watch them at work.

Ahangama's food scene rivals anywhere on the south coast — fresh seafood shacks, vegan cafés, rooftop bars. Try Ceylon Sliders or Hotel des Uncles.

Ahangama faces west — sunsets are spectacular. Grab a drink at Marshmallow Beach House or the Lighthouse and watch the Indian Ocean light up.

May 1 is a Thursday — perfect timing. Lamana is a hip Spanish restaurant with a skate bowl in the garden. Every Thursday the place comes alive: skaters perform tricks in the bowl while everyone else hits the dancefloor around them. One of the most unique and talked-about party nights on the entire south coast. Don't miss it.

Just 20 minutes west — and directly on the road to the airport expressway. Zero detour.

16th-century fort — a living town inside ancient ramparts. Church Street, the lighthouse, the Dutch Reformed Church, and boutique galleries. Allow 3–4 hrs at a leisurely pace.

The Pedlar's Inn Café or Fortaleza for Sri Lankan fusion. Or a simple rice & curry just outside the walls.

Fast and smooth. Arrive at the airport around 17:00 — a comfortable 3 hours before your 20:00 departure. No overnight stop needed.

You've seen Lion Rock, Ella's tea hills, whale-watching at dawn, three different surf bays, and Galle Fort — and wasted almost no time on the road.
